Our History

Mallee Family Care established in Mildura as an arm of Melbourne Family Care, with a brief to consolidate the Family Group Home already established in Swan Hill and explore opportunities to develop further services.
Social worker appointed in Kerang.
Foster Care program established in Mildura.
Mallee Family Care became incorporated as a separate entity, independent of Melbourne Family Care.
In conjunction with La Trobe University, Mallee Family Care was instrumental in establishing a  Social Work Degree to be offered by SuniTAFE.
Integrated Family Centres opened in Mildura and Swan Hill.
Murray Mallee Community Legal Service is established.
Chances for Children Program established.
MFC began provision of family services in NSW.
Commencement of Communities for Children program in Swan Hill and Robinvale.
Family Relationship Centre opens in Mildura, Swan Hill, Broken Hill (NSW) and the Riverland (SA).
MFC has a prominent role working with La Trobe University to facilitate the Bachelor of Social Work course offered at La Trobe’s Mildura campus.
Significant expansion in the delivery of Commonwealth funded mental health services.
Establishment of a scholarship program for students studying social work at the Mildura campus of  LaTrobe University. New offices in Dareton, Balranald and Robinvale.
Chances for Children have provided life changing opportunities to over 1500 local young people.
Mallee Family Care celebrates its 35th Anniversary.
After 36 years, Executive Director, Vernon Knight AM has retired.
Teresa Jayet is appointed the new Chief Executive Officer.
